The result of the First Prize is to receive a commission to write a song cycle to be published by E.C. Schirmer. The commissioned song cycle will be performed in three major American cities.

Zhou Tian's symphonic poem A Thousand Years of Good Prayers was premiered by The Green Bay Symphony under Christoph Campestrini. Of the piece, Green Bay Press-Gazette wrote "It is an appealing work that expresses an outlook on life in a story-like way….[Conductor] Campestrini called Zhou to the stage to collect his standing ovation..."

Zhou Tian's Symphonic Suite: The Grand Canal was selected as the opening work at the Opening Ceremony of Zhejiang International Cultural & Art Festival in China. The complete work will be premiered on Oct 11, 13 and 14, by Hangzhou Philharmonic. View concert photos.

CD RELEASE: Zhou Tian's The Grand Canal was recorded by the Guangzhou Symphony with guest soloists and released by China's largest recording label Pacific Audio & Video. The 7-movement work calls for two Chinese instruments, a Chinese Opera singer, mixed chorus and full orchestra and it was commissioned by Hangzhou Federation of Literary and Art Circles to celebrate the Grand Canal of China. Zhou Tian received the First Prize of 2009 Washington International Competition for Composers. Established in 1976, the composers’ competition is held every 3 years. Zhou’s winning work, Trio, will be performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, on March 22.

Zhou Tian has been selected as the winner of The Symphony in C Young Composers' Competition 2007-08. Zhou's winning work The Palace of Nine Perfections will be performed by The Symphony in C under Rossen Milanov on March 1, 2008 at Rutgers-Camden Center in Haddonfield, New Jersey.
